Four goals before Calgary found its feet
Colorado took the Flames apart in Denver on Saturday night, winning 5-2 after scoring the first four goals of the game. Nathan MacKinnon opened the scoring at 14:13 of the first period, and the second period turned into a one-sided stretch: Martin Necas on the power play at 2:37, Artturi Lehkonen at 5:48 and Brock Nelson at 9:07 made it 4-0 in under seven minutes.
Cale Makar did the setting up, finishing with four assists. Devon Toews added two, MacKinnon and Necas each had a goal and an assist, and Lehkonen closed the night with two goals, the second at 4:09 of the third to restore a three-goal cushion.

Calgary answers too late
Joel Farabee got the Flames on the board at 10:50 of the second and Marin Pospisil cut it to 4-2 early in the third, but that was as close as they came. Arsenii Sergeev stopped 29 shots for Calgary. At the other end Mackenzie Blackwood made 25 saves, including a glove stop on Matt Coronato with 12 seconds left in the first period that kept the game at 1-0 going into the intermission.
Calgary also gave Colorado the only power plays of the night, taking a minor in the second period and a double minor late in the third.
Injury notes on both benches
Nelson briefly left the game in the second period after a Makar shot hit him on the helmet, and he was back for the third. Defenseman Josh Manson is out for up to eight weeks with an ankle injury suffered in Wednesday’s win over New Jersey, with Noah Juulsen stepping in. Calgary is without goalie Devin Cooley, on injured reserve with a lower-body injury, which is why Sergeev was recalled on Friday.
