Telstar vs FC Utrecht: nine league games without a win, and Correia returns to Velsen-Zuid Eredivisie

Telstar have gone nine Eredivisie games without a win: three draws and six defeats. Their only league victory of the season is still the 2-1 against NEC in August, and on Wednesday they went out of the KNVB Beker after a 2-0 home defeat to Almere City, a side from the Eerste Divisie.

FC Utrecht arrive at the BUKO Stadion on Sunday 1 November, kick-off 13:30 UK time, unbeaten in four games in all competitions. The latest was a 1-0 cup win at Kozakken Boys in midweek, and over the last five gameweeks only three Eredivisie sides have collected more league points.

The dugout gives the fixture its edge. Anthony Correia, 44, left Telstar for Utrecht in July, and this is his first return to the club he coached last season. His replacement, Henk Brugge, started with seven goals in his first three games and has struggled since, and the club’s hierarchy is reported to be backing him for now with results needing to turn quickly.

Telstar are 16th. A home win could lift them as high as 14th depending on what PEC Zwolle and Sparta Rotterdam do, while Utrecht sit three points behind seventh-placed Heerenveen and the places that lead to European football.

The head-to-head points one way. Utrecht are unbeaten in the last seven meetings, they took four points from the two league games last season, and the most recent of them finished 4-1 in Utrecht on 11 April 2026. The November 2025 visit to Velsen-Zuid ended 1-1.

We think the more useful number for Sunday is a scoring one. Utrecht’s matches have averaged 4.20 goals across their last ten in all competitions, and Telstar have conceded 2.83 goals per home game over the same stretch.

Telstar: seven goals scored and seven conceded after the 75th minute Telstar

No Eredivisie side has scored more goals in the final 15 minutes than Telstar’s seven. No side has conceded more in that period either, also seven, and that split describes their season well: their games stay open until the end.

Their last six league results run Twente 1-0 Telstar, Heerenveen 0-0 Telstar, AZ 1-0 Telstar, Telstar 2-2 ADO Den Haag, Telstar 3-4 Feyenoord and Go Ahead Eagles 3-2 Telstar. Four of those six were decided by a single goal, and the last three produced 16 goals between them.

Across their last ten matches in all competitions Telstar have taken 0.30 points per game, scoring 1.00 goal and conceding 2.20 per match. Both teams have scored in half of those games.

Tyrone Owusu is the one attacker in form. He went seven games without a goal at the start of the season, then scored in each of his last three league appearances to reach four for the campaign, including in the 3-2 defeat at Go Ahead.

There are no fresh fitness concerns, so Brugge can choose from the same group that lost to Almere City. Koeman Jr is expected in goal behind Caschili, Valk, Soualhia and Peersman, with Martha, Owusu and Brouwer supporting Thorisson.

FC Utrecht: 2.00 points per away game and a five-man injury list FC Utrecht

Utrecht have collected 2.00 points per game on the road across their last ten matches, double their home rate of 1.00. Their league trips in that run include a 2-1 win at Excelsior and a 2-1 win at Twente, and the only heavy defeat was the 5-0 at Feyenoord just before the international break.

Their last six league results read 3-3 against Go Ahead Eagles, 2-1 at Excelsior, 0-5 at Feyenoord, 3-1 against Willem II, 2-1 at Twente and 1-1 against PEC Zwolle. Both teams have scored in 80% of Utrecht’s last ten games, and their away matches over that period have averaged 3.60 goals.

The squad is thin in places. Miliano Jonathans and Noah Ohio both have cruciate ligament injuries and aren’t expected back until next year, Victor Jensen and Kevin Paredes have knee problems, and Alonzo Engwanda is out with a hamstring injury.

Vasilis Barkas has missed the last three games and is unlikely to return, so Sergio Padt should keep his place in goal. In front of him, Zagre, Panagiotou, Didden and Vesterlund are expected to form the back four, with Agougil and Van Overeem in midfield.

Yoann Cathline, Dani de Wit and Alarcon are expected to play behind Van Duijn. Cathline scored twice in the 3-1 win over Willem II earlier this month, and De Wit has been the side’s most regular shooter from midfield.

Correia’s side have scored in five of their last six league games. The exception was the trip to Feyenoord.

Probable lineup Telstar: Koeman Jr; Caschili, Valk, Soualhia, Peersman; Shenkman, Rossen; Martha, Owusu, Brouwer; Thorisson
Probable lineup FC Utrecht: Padt; Zagre, Panagiotou, Didden, Vesterlund; Agougil, Van Overeem; Cathline, De Wit, Alarcon; Van Duijn

Free Football Prediction: Telstar vs FC Utrecht

Our prediction: Over 2.5 goals @ 1.53

We’d lean towards Utrecht for the result, but the stronger case is in the goals market. Utrecht’s games over the last ten have averaged 4.20 goals, their away matches 3.60, and Telstar concede 2.83 per home game while scoring and conceding more late goals than anyone in the division.

The argument against is Telstar’s recent goalless draw at Heerenveen and the 1-0 defeats at Twente and AZ, which show they can keep a game tight for long spells. Those came away from home. At the BUKO Stadion they’ve just conceded six in two league games against Feyenoord and ADO, and two more to a second-tier side in the cup.

Utrecht’s attack has scored in five of six league games and their defence has let in at least one in five of those six. Add a home side that has to chase points and a late-goal habit at both ends, and over 2.5 goals at 1.53 is our pick.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

No commitment from us

Our predictions carry no contractual value. They have no legal standing. In short: you cannot rely on them to claim anything if a bet doesn’t come through.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Before placing a bet, simply check that gambling is legal in your country. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling

We can’t say it enough: gamble responsibly. If you’re struggling to stay in control, don’t wait to seek help.
