“I did nothing”
Facundo Medina knows what Marseille fans think of his season, and he is not arguing. Speaking to Canal+ ahead of Thursday’s Europa League trip to face his former club, the Argentine defender counted up his appearances and called all 26 of them poor. “I did nothing,” he said.
The numbers behind the admission are not small. Medina joined OM in the summer of 2025 for 18 million euros after five years at Lens, saying he liked the club’s overall project. A year later he left for Bayer Leverkusen, and Marseille took 25 million euros for him at a moment when the club was tightening its budget.

A reunion with no hard feelings
He sounds relaxed about the return. The game will feel “special”, Medina said, because he will see old teammates and friends again, and he described himself as excited. He has settled quickly in Germany, where he is a regular in Carles Martinez Novell’s side.
The context sharpens the fixture. Leverkusen are fourth in the Bundesliga and second in the Europa League table. Marseille arrive in Germany with nothing to show for their first three matchdays in the competition, and a first point is what they are chasing. The match kicks off at 21:00 Paris time on Thursday.
