A 61 and a rusty putter
Andrew Novak shot a 10-under 61 in the second round of the Mexico Open on Friday, the low round of the week so far, and sits at 14 under through 36 holes, three clear of the field. He played his last six holes in five under, starting with an eagle on the 296-yard par-4 13th and following it with birdies at 15, 16 and 18.
The credit, he says, goes to an old putter he dug out of storage. Novak ranks near the bottom of the PGA Tour in putting, so the switch was worth a gamble. It is also well timed. He arrived 89th in the FedEx Cup fall standings, and a win would project him to 53rd.
