Sheffield United vs Wrexham: no league win over Wrexham since 1983
Sheffield United haven’t beaten Wrexham in a league match since 1983. Both Championship meetings last season went to the Welsh side, 5-3 at the Racecourse on Boxing Day 2025 and 2-1 at Bramall Lane on 21 March.
The next one is on Friday 30 October at Bramall Lane, kick-off 8pm UK time. Chris Wilder’s side are 12th with 16 points from 12 games, four wins, four draws and four defeats, and four points off the top eight. Wrexham are 17th, two points behind them, with three wins, five draws and four defeats.
Every one of the last five meetings between these clubs, across all competitions, produced at least three goals, and both sides scored in all five. The list includes a 3-3 at the Racecourse in January 2023 and a 4-2 Sheffield United win in August 2024.
Neither side comes in on a good weekend. Sheffield United needed a 79th-minute Patrick Bamford equaliser to draw 1-1 with Derby on Saturday, after Derby had been reduced to ten men 13 minutes earlier, and Bamford picked up a shoulder injury in the same game. Wrexham lost 2-0 at Ewood Park that afternoon.
Phil Parkinson took Wrexham through three straight promotions and to seventh in the Championship last season. He’s now under growing pressure, and his side haven’t won away from home since a 3-0 at Millwall in early September.
The bookmakers price the draw at 3.38. I’d take that over either side, and the reasons sit in both team sections below.
Sheffield United: three defeats in six and Bamford a doubt
Wilder’s last six league games read: a 1-0 home defeat to Wolves, 2-1 at Stoke, a 3-0 win over Lincoln, 3-2 at Portsmouth, a 1-0 win at Bristol City and the Derby draw. That’s two wins, one draw and three defeats.
Bamford has five league goals, the most at the club. If his shoulder doesn’t settle, the probable front two is Tom Cannon and Jordan Ayew, with Ben Brereton Diaz on the left of a four-man midfield and Kalvin Phillips and Sydie Peck in the middle.
Ryan One is out with a hamstring injury, Matt Doherty and Jamie Shackleton are unavailable, and Femi Seriki is an option again after two months out.
Over their last ten matches, Sheffield United have scored 1.4 goals a game and conceded 1.4, with both teams scoring in six of them. They’ve kept two clean sheets in that run, and their expected goals against, 1.62 a game, sits above the 1.34 they create.
Bramall Lane has given them four points from their last two home games. Avoid defeat here and they’d go three home league games unbeaten for the first time in 2026.
A 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town is also on their record this autumn. I’m not convinced the back four has fixed what went wrong that night.

Wrexham: Moore’s five goals and four away games without a win
Kieffer Moore has five league goals, two of them in his last three games, and he returns to the club he used to play for. He’ll lead the line with Smith and O’Hare behind him.
Wrexham’s last six league results: 6-0 at West Ham, a 2-1 home win over Southampton, 1-1 at Derby, a 2-1 home defeat to West Brom, 4-1 against Preston and the 2-0 loss at Blackburn.
The away numbers explain the four-game winless run on the road. Over their last ten matches, Wrexham have scored 0.8 goals per away game and conceded 1.8, and they’ve won one of five away fixtures in that spell.
Max Cleworth, Liberato Cacace, George Thomason and Nathan Broadhead are out, and Josh Windass, who has missed three games with an ankle injury, isn’t expected to be ready.
Parkinson should stick with a back three of Hyam, Worrall and Doyle, with Kabore and Ekomie at wing-back and Rathbone alongside Whiteman. Wrexham have conceded 18 league goals in 12 games, three more than their hosts.
Away from the Racecourse, though, their games have been tighter than the West Ham score suggests. They kept clean sheets in two of their last five away matches, both teams scored in only one of them, and their expected goals against over the last ten sits at 1.36, lower than Sheffield United’s.
Probable lineup Sheffield United: Cooper; Choudhury, Tanganga, Kitching, Burrows; Chong, Phillips, Peck, Brereton Diaz; Cannon, Ayew
Probable lineup Wrexham: Patterson; Hyam, Worrall, Doyle; Kabore, Rathbone, Whiteman, Ekomie; Smith, O’Hare; Moore

Our prediction: Draw (odds 3.38)
I’d back the draw at 3.38. Sheffield United have lost three of their last six league games and may be without their top scorer, while Wrexham haven’t won on the road since early September and are missing five players.
The head-to-head is the risk to this pick, since five straight meetings with three or more goals mean a 2-2 is as likely as a 1-1, and either score lands the bet. A late winner for either side is what beats it.
Expected goals over the last ten matches point the same way: 1.34 for and 1.62 against for Sheffield United, 1.30 for and 1.36 against for Wrexham. Two sides creating about the same and allowing about the same don’t usually separate by much. Sixteen points against 14, nine draws between them already this season, and two squads with gaps in them. A point each on Friday night fits everything both clubs have shown since September.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
