A hamstring strain, and a two-week clock
Detroit has lost its starting center for the near term. The Pistons told reporters Sunday that Jalen Duren has a right hamstring strain and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, according to Michael Scotto.
The club did not say how or when he got hurt. A re-evaluation date is not a return date, so the real absence could run longer than 14 days.

Bad timing for a new contract
Duren signed a fully guaranteed five-year, $200 million deal earlier this month, ending a standoff that had dragged through the summer. He is 22, a first-time All-Star and an All-NBA selection last season, when he averaged a career-high 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds as Detroit won 60 games and took the East’s top seed.
That production is hard to replace on a short rotation. Detroit’s frontcourt now leans on whoever absorbs his minutes, and every night he sits is one more game where the Pistons have to find rebounding and rim protection somewhere else.
Two weeks covers a good chunk of the opening month of the schedule. Expect an update from the medical staff before the re-evaluation window closes.
