Surridge breaks the deadlock
Nashville SC are the best regular-season team in MLS. A 2-0 win at CF Montreal on Saturday secured the Supporters’ Shield, and it came against a side that had nothing left to play for.
The first half was slow. Sam Surridge had the only shot in the opening 18 minutes, forcing 17-year-old goalkeeper Samsy Keita off his line in the second minute. Brayan Vera hit the far post with a header in the 21st, Dante Sealy sent a chance over the bar in the 33rd, and the break arrived goalless.

Mukhtar seals it
Nashville found the opener in the 52nd minute. Reed Baker-Whiting crossed, Surridge’s header was saved by Keita, and the striker followed up to score from the rebound. It was his 18th goal of the season, the most on the team.
Hany Mukhtar made it 2-0 in the 76th. He picked off a clearance from Vera outside the box and his shot took a deflection off Keita on its way into the top corner. Four minutes later he came close to a third, but Keita turned his effort away. Keita was making his MLS debut.
Two ends of the table
Nashville finish on 70 points with a 21-3-7 record and have now gone seven games unbeaten, going 5-0-2 in that stretch. Montreal, on the other hand, are 6-18-7 with 25 points, have won just one of their last 11 (1-8-2) and are now mathematically out of the playoff race.
