New Jersey Devils vs Los Angeles Kings: Panarin’s six goals against a 35-shot Devils team NHL

Artemi Panarin has six goals and nine points in eight games for Los Angeles, his first full season with the Kings since the Rangers traded him there on February 4, 2026. Adrian Kempe is next on the goal list with three.

He takes that form to Prudential Center on Saturday afternoon, where New Jersey has won four of its last five. Puck drop is 3:30pm ET on ESPN+.

The Kings come in on two straight wins of their own: 5-2 over Washington on Tuesday and 3-2 in overtime against the Islanders on Thursday. Before that they’d lost three in a row while scoring one goal in each game, with defeats to Edmonton and Boston among them.

Even after that pair of wins, Los Angeles is 2-4-2 and sixth in the Pacific Division. New Jersey is 6-4-0 and fourth in the Metropolitan, and the Devils beat Anaheim 4-1 on Thursday to make it two wins in a row as well.

The moneyline has New Jersey around 1.60 and the Kings near 2.38, with the Devils’ -1.5 puck line priced at 2.44. We think the shot gap and the special-teams numbers justify the home price, and we’d take the Devils to win rather than to win big.

New Jersey Devils: 35 shots a game and Jack Hughes on 11 points New Jersey Devils

New Jersey takes 35 shots per game and allows 25.1. That’s a margin of roughly ten shots a night, and it’s the foundation of the four wins in five games.

The results have followed. The Devils put seven past the Rangers, beat Colorado 4-3 and handled Anaheim 4-1 on Thursday, with the only loss in that stretch coming in Washington. They score 3.30 goals per game and allow 3.10 for the season.

Jack Hughes leads the team with 11 points, eight of them assists. Jesper Bratt has nine points, and Nico Hischier and Arseny Gritsyuk have five goals each, so the scoring doesn’t depend on one line.

Goaltending is the soft spot. Jake Allen is 4-2-0 with a 3.15 GAA and an .883 save percentage, and Nico Daws has a 2.78 GAA with an .874 save percentage. Allen was among the projected starters in earlier reports, though the Devils hadn’t confirmed their goalie at the time of writing.

The injury list is short. Nick Bjugstad is on long-term injured reserve and Seamus Casey is unavailable, which leaves New Jersey close to its full forward group for a home game against a team missing four regulars.

Los Angeles Kings: a 63% penalty kill and 3.63 goals allowed per game Los Angeles Kings

Los Angeles has killed 63% of opposing power plays this season. Against a team that shoots as often as New Jersey does, every minor penalty becomes a real threat.

The Kings allow 3.63 goals per game and score 2.50 on 29 shots a night. Those two figures explain the 2-4-2 record better than the recent wins do, and the three straight one-goal games before Tuesday showed how thin the scoring gets when Panarin is quiet.

Behind Panarin and Kempe, the production comes mostly from setup men. Alex Laferriere and Brandt Clarke have five assists apiece, and nobody else on the roster has scored more than three goals.

That group is missing Jakub Dvorak, who’s on injured reserve along with forwards Kevin Fiala, Alex Turcotte and Jan Jenik. Quinton Byfield is out as well, so the Kings play this road game without Byfield or Fiala.

In goal, Darcy Kuemper has a 3.55 GAA and an .890 save percentage, and Anton Forsberg is at 2.63 and .883. Kuemper was projected to start in earlier reports. Neither has been sharp enough to cover for a penalty kill that has let in more than a third of the power plays it’s faced.

Our prediction: New Jersey Devils to win (moneyline) at 1.60

We’re taking New Jersey on the moneyline at around 1.60. The Devils outshoot opponents by about ten a game, they’ve won four of their last five, and they face a Kings team that allows 3.63 goals per game and kills only 63% of penalties.

Two things work against us. Allen’s .883 save percentage means the Devils can lose a game they dominate on shots, and Los Angeles arrives on back-to-back wins with Panarin scoring at better than a goal every two games.

We’d leave the puck line alone. A 3-2 Devils win is a very plausible score with these two goaltending groups, and it wouldn’t cover -1.5. On the moneyline, New Jersey’s shot volume, healthier roster and home ice are enough for us, against a Kings team without Byfield, Fiala and Turcotte.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

No commitment from us

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
