Forest waste their chances at Portman Road
Seventeen shots, 2.31 expected goals and one point. That was Nottingham Forest’s Friday night at Ipswich, a 1-1 draw that felt like a defeat for the visitors.
Neco Williams put Forest ahead in the 13th minute. Ipswich hung around, and on 41 minutes Julio Enciso levelled after Nikola Milenkovic made a mess of a clearance. Forest kept pushing after the break. Liam Delap and Callum Hudson-Odoi both missed good looks, and Leif Davis twice cleared off his own goal line to keep Ipswich level.
Williams also left the pitch late on holding his arm, a worry for Forest on top of everything else.

The Diop decision and what it means
The talking point came four minutes into the second half. Issa Diop challenged James McAtee, and VAR called referee Thomas Bramall to the pitchside monitor. Bramall settled on a yellow card and a direct free kick. Oliver Glasner said he thought it was the wrong call. Steve Cooper, who used to manage Forest, argued the referee should simply have awarded the free kick on the spot, without the long review.
The numbers explain Forest’s mood. They have scored six goals from 13.4 expected this season, the biggest gap between chances and finishing in the league, and they have won once in eight games.
For Ipswich, the point carries its own weight. They have already matched the seven home Premier League points they collected in the whole of 2024/25. Gary O’Neil admitted survival “won’t be easy”, but he also said Forest should be a good side, which tells you how he saw the night.
