DR Congo – Botswana: final group game, opposite agendas
Group D is wrapping up and this one’s clear-cut on the table. DR Congo are already through; Botswana are already out. Tuesday at Al Barid, two teams with very different reasons to play.
DR Congo: finish the job before the knockouts
Solid and consistent from the off, the Congolese side did what was needed to seal qualification without drama. A controlled win over Benin in the opener, then a shared point with Senegal got Sébastien Desabre’s men to their first target.
More than the results, it’s the Leopards’ steadiness that stands out. Well organised, hard to unpick and able to make the most of their stronger spells, they’ve shown a reassuring face ahead of the knockouts.
This final group outing should be about tightening patterns, protecting key players and, if possible, nabbing top spot. Manage the squad smartly — but don’t drop the performance demands.
Botswana: salvage pride and gain experience
This AFCON has been harsh on Botswana. Thrown into a tough group, the tournament newcomers were quickly shown what continental elite football looks like. Humiliated by Senegal, then edged by Benin, the Zebras saw their hopes die early.
Already eliminated before this third match, they’ve got nothing to lose. The mission now is symbolic: offer a better performance, stand firmer and, why not, nick a shock against a supposedly stronger side on paper.
It’s also a useful lab for the coaches — minutes for fringe players and a chance to prepare for the next steps on the continental stage.
Probable lineups
Botswana : Phoko, Velaphi, Gaolaolwe, Ditlhokwe, Johnson, Ditsele, Mohutsiwa, Ratshukudu, Orebonye, Seakanyeng, Kebatho
DR Congo : M’Pasi, Kayembe, Tuanzebe, Mbemba, Wan-Bissaka, Moutoussamy, Sadiki, Mukau, Elia, Bongonda, Bakambu
Key points
- DR Congo are already qualified for the knockout stage.
- Botswana have no sporting stakes in this match.
- The Leopards can still go for top spot in the group.
- A useful game to tweak the last details before the round of 16.
Football Prediction DR Congo vs Botswana
DR Congo to win by at least two goals
The gap in quality, confidence and experience looks too big to expect anything else. Sober rather than flashy, DR Congo should control the match and see off a brave but limited Botswana.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We share an opinion, a snapshot reading, not a guarantee. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the script flips.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, it rarely is. Yes, that means you can lose. It’s bound to happen at some point.
- Best advice: be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live. And whatever you do, don’t chase losses — it rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a pastime, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your life, making you irritable or stressed, take a break. If needed, talk to a specialised organisation. That’s what they’re for.
- At the end of the day, responsibility’s on you. Reading our content means accepting the risk exists and it won’t vanish, even with the best analysis.
- Important reminder: betting is banned for minors and must comply with your country’s laws. Gambling can spiral quickly (money losses, family tensions, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions don’t amount to a contract. They have no legal force. Plain and simple: you can’t rely on them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Facts change
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. In the meantime a lineup can change, a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis becomes obsolete. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before betting, check that gambling is legal where you live. If it’s not, that’s your responsibility, not ours.
