Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hoffenheim – Free Bundesliga Prediction – 18/10/2026

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hoffenheim: bottom against second-bottom, and neither side can keep a clean sheet Bundesliga

Borussia Monchengladbach are bottom of the Bundesliga with no points from five matches and a goal difference of minus 11. Hoffenheim, who finished fifth last season and only narrowly missed the Champions League, are one place above them on three points.

The two meet at Borussia-Park on Sunday 18 October, kick-off 17:30 Paris time, on matchday six. Gladbach’s start ranks among the five worst in Bundesliga history at this stage, and results elsewhere this weekend could leave them six points from safety before a ball is kicked.

Alexander Blessin replaced Eugen Polanski in late September and is still waiting for a first point. The closest Gladbach came was a 2-1 defeat at FC Koln on 11 October, the first league game this season in which they conceded fewer than three goals.

Hoffenheim’s own slide is almost as steep. Christian Ilzer’s side have lost their last four games in all competitions and six of eight this season. They conceded exactly three in each of their three most recent defeats and have now been beaten 3-2 four times, the latest at home to Besiktas in the Europa League on Thursday.

Both teams have scored in four of their last five matches, and four of each side’s last five games have gone over 2.5 goals. The defences, not the attacks, are what links these two clubs right now.

The head-to-head offers Gladbach some cover. Hoffenheim have won once in the last five meetings, and Gladbach won 4-0 in April 2026. The bookmakers ignore that history and price Hoffenheim at 2.05, Gladbach at 3.10 and the draw at 4.00.

Borussia Monchengladbach: two home games, two 4-3 defeats, and Blessin still chasing a first point Borussia Monchengladbach

Gladbach have played twice at Borussia-Park in the league this season and lost both games 4-3. That’s six goals scored at home, and eight conceded.

The attack isn’t the issue. Seven league goals is more than four other Bundesliga sides have managed, which is an unusual figure for a team with no points. The 18 conceded in five matches tells the rest of the story.

Across all competitions, Gladbach won their first game and have lost the five since. Last season the same ground was a strength: three draws and four wins from their final seven home matches of 2025-26.

Franck Honorat and Ko Itakura are expected to miss out through injury. Losing Itakura removes an experienced organiser from a back three that has already been rebuilt more than once this season.

Three of Gladbach’s five league defeats were by a single goal: the two 4-3 home losses and the 2-1 at Koln. The margins have stayed tight even with the points total stuck at zero, and that’s part of why we expect them to score on Sunday.

Blessin is expected to go with Nicolas in goal behind Hashioka, Diks and Leszczynski, with Scally and Ullrich as wing-backs. Bolin and Lidberg should support Mohya in attack.

Hoffenheim: six defeats in eight, four of them by a 3-2 scoreline Hoffenheim

Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga sequence reads lost, lost, won, lost, lost, and their all-competitions run is one win in six. The Thursday defeat to Besiktas was their fourth loss in a row.

The road hasn’t helped. Ilzer’s side have lost three of their four away games this season, and another defeat on Sunday would be a fourth straight away loss in all competitions.

They’re short at the back as well. Bernardo is suspended after his red card against Hamburger SV last weekend, Albian Hajdari is injured and Patrick Wimmer is ruled out. That leaves Coufal, Kabak, Machida and Rots as the likely back four.

The attack carries more threat than Gladbach’s. Lemperle and Asllani should start up front, with Daghim and Burger supporting, and Hoffenheim have scored in four of their last five matches. A side losing 3-2 repeatedly is a side that keeps finding the net.

The wider context makes this a strange low point. Hoffenheim finished 15th in 2024-25 before climbing to fifth last season, and they’re juggling the Europa League with a league campaign that has already slipped into the bottom two.

Probable lineup Borussia Monchengladbach: Nicolas; Hashioka, Diks, Leszczynski; Scally, Uno, Sander, Ullrich; Bolin, Lidberg; Mohya
Probable lineup Hoffenheim: Baumann; Coufal, Kabak, Machida, Rots; Conte, Avdullahu; Burger, Daghim; Lemperle, Asllani

Free Bundesliga Prediction: Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hoffenheim

Our prediction: Hoffenheim to win (odds 2.05)

Gladbach have conceded at least three goals in four of their five league games, including both home matches. Hoffenheim have scored in four of their last five and carry the stronger attacking unit, even without Wimmer. Against a defence that has shipped 18 in five league games, we expect the visitors to score more than once.

The case against is real: Hoffenheim have lost three of four away games and four straight overall, and Gladbach thrashed them 4-0 in April. Bernardo’s suspension also weakens a back line that has conceded three in each of its last three defeats.

We still trust the side with more quality in the final third. Gladbach have scored freely at home but have conceded four in both of those games, and Itakura’s absence won’t help. At 2.05, the away win is the pick, with both teams to score as the natural companion angle. Hoffenheim or the draw is available at 1.36 on the double chance, below our minimum price, which is why we take the outright win rather than the safety net.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
