Alvarez sticks to the October 31 date
Canelo Alvarez says he will fight in Riyadh on October 31, even after attacks on the Saudi capital’s airport. The 36-year-old is due to face WBC super-middleweight champion Christian M’Billi, and nothing in Monday’s reports points to a change of plan.
Promoter Turki Al-Sheikh made that clear on social media. Alvarez “fears nothing,” he wrote.

Security fears around the card
The backdrop is grim. Saudi officials say strikes by the Iran-backed Houthi militia on Riyadh’s airport have killed at least 12 people and wounded more than 300. Fighters, trainers and fans would all have to travel into that city, which is why the question of whether the card goes ahead hangs over the fight.
For now, Alvarez and the promotion are not blinking. No postponement has been announced and no new date has been floated.
More than a year since Las Vegas
There is a ring side to this too. Alvarez has not fought since September 13, 2025, when he lost a unanimous decision to Terence Crawford in Las Vegas. That is more than 13 months away from competition for a man in his mid-30s.
If the card holds, it will be his first fight since that defeat, and he will step in against a reigning champion.
