Brest vs Angers: a home record against the visitors that holds up, and a defence that’s stopped leaking
Brest haven’t lost any of their last six home meetings with Angers. That’s the stat to keep in mind before Saturday’s matchday six game at Stade Francis-Le Blé, kick-off 20:45 Paris time.
The table tells a different story. Angers are 7th, a point off the European places, after a bright start that nobody really expected. Brest are 11th, just a point above the relegation zone, and have won one of their five league games.
Only two points separate them, but the mood around each club is very different. Brest have lost their last two, against PSG and Auxerre. Angers have taken points in three of their last four and kept two clean sheets in a row.
It’s also been a difficult few months off the pitch in Brittany. Julien Lachuer took charge after the sudden death of Eric Roy this summer, and the team has looked like a side still finding its feet. That’s understandable. It still has to change.
Both sides have been sharp from set-pieces, which could decide a tight game. Brest lead Ligue 1 with four set-piece goals. Angers have three, and they haven’t conceded one yet. Something’s got to give.
Brest: set-piece threat, but a back line without its two first-choice centre-backs
Lachuer’s biggest problem this week is at centre-back. Chardonnet, the captain, has a calf strain and is short of fitness. Le Guen, who’d played every minute of every league game, fractured his fibula in training during the break and won’t play again in 2026.
That’s a big loss. Tousart, a midfielder by trade, is expected to move into the back line. Diambou has a sore ankle, and Versini and Edjouma are also doubts. It’s not ideal preparation for a side that’s already committing 15 fouls a game, the second-highest rate in the league.
The results have been mixed. Draws with Le Mans (2-2) and Toulouse (2-2), a 2-1 win at Le Havre, then a 1-0 home defeat to PSG and a 2-1 loss at Auxerre. Brest led in that last game through Mboup, then conceded twice after the break, the winner coming from a Le Guen own goal. They’ve dropped four points from winning positions this season.
Doumbia has been the bright spark, with four goals. Ajorque has only one, but he’s a huge threat at set-pieces, and that’s where Brest have done most of their damage.
Brest also drew 2-2 with Monza in a friendly during the break. Hardly a sign of a side about to click. But home games against Angers have been kind to them for a long time.

Angers: two clean sheets, an in-form keeper and an unbeaten run on the road
Stephane Gilli’s side lost 2-0 to Lille on the opening weekend, then went to Auxerre and won 3-1. A 2-1 home defeat to Rennes followed. Since then, they’ve been very solid: a 0-0 draw at Le Havre and a 2-0 win over Troyes.
Anthony Lopes has been a big part of that. He made five saves against Troyes to keep a second straight clean sheet. If Angers keep another one on Saturday, they’ll match their longest run without conceding this year.
They’re also unbeaten in their last two away games, conceding once. For a club whose main aim is to stay up, seventh place in October is a very good return.
Team news is mostly positive. Allevinah, the right winger, is the main doubt after pulling out of the Gabon squad. Belkebla is back and pushing for a start. Peter and Sbai both scored their first goals of the season against Troyes, and El Ouazzani has a goal and two assists.
The record at Brest is the problem. Angers’ last win there came in 2020, a 1-0. They drew 1-1 at Francis-Le Blé last season. Not a ground that suits them.
Probable lineup Brest: Selvik; Lala, Tousart, Lloris, Locko; Chotard, Magnetti; Versini, Doumbia, Mboup; Ajorque (Versini doubtful)
Probable lineup Angers: Lopes; Arcus, Camara, Lefort, Kalulu; Allevinah, Van den Boomen, Belkhdim, Sbai; Peter, El Ouazzani (Allevinah doubtful)
Free Football Prediction: Brest vs Angers
Our prediction: Brest win @ 1.91
Angers’ recent form is better, and we don’t ignore that. But Brest are unbeaten in their last six home meetings with Angers and in their last three league games against them overall.
Brest’s set-piece threat is the best in the league, with four goals, and Ajorque in the box is a very different proposition from what Troyes or Le Havre offered Angers. Brest also have Doumbia, who’s already on four goals.
The defensive changes are a risk, and this won’t be comfortable. Still, at home and against a side that hasn’t won here since 2020, we’re backing Brest to edge it.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses, that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
