NBA : The 76ers lose home-court edge against Boston

Embiid remains out as the series swings back Philadelphia 76ers logo

Joel Embiid stays on the inactive list. Nick Nurse and his staff have officially ruled out an early return. The recovery plan after his appendix issue is still ticking along. Philadelphia came into Game 3 needing to protect home court. Boston ripped that script up. The visitors took it 108-100, and the series has flipped again.

The numbers point straight to Boston’s balanced attack. Jaylen Brown finished with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. Jayson Tatum added 25 points and 7 assists. The second half was a mess of swings, with the lead changing hands more than once. The game turned in the final 120 seconds.

Tatum and Payton Pritchard delivered the knockout blows. A run of made shots from deep wiped out the noise in the building and slammed the door on Philadelphia’s comeback hopes. Tyrese Maxey did his part with 31 points and 6 assists, but it wasn’t enough against a Celtics side that simply managed possessions better. Game 4 is on Sunday.

The outside shooting gap and the injury watch

The stat sheet shows a major gap from three-point range. Joe Mazzulla’s offence hit 20 of 47 from beyond the arc. Philadelphia managed just 12 makes from 35 attempts. That outside shooting edge covered for Boston’s issues scoring in the paint.

Joel Embiid’s chances of returning for Sunday’s game are still being monitored. Early word from the coaching side says it’s unlikely. So the 76ers may have to keep pushing with the same undersized setup, or risk heading into a brutal 3-1 hole in the series.
