The first quarter and halftime
The Detroit Pistons faced the Cleveland Cavaliers. Detroit took Game 1 of the series. The home side came out flying and controlled the opening stretch. The stats show a 17-3 run in the early minutes.
Javonte Green drilled a three-pointer at the end of the first quarter. The scoreboard read 37-21. Cleveland trimmed the gap before the break. Donovan Mitchell ran the offense with a string of outside shots. It was 56-46 at halftime.
The gap shrinks in the third quarter
Kenny Atkinson’s team turned up the heat offensively after the break. Evan Mobley, Dennis Schroder and Max Strus all got buckets. The margin was cut to three points. The score stood at 77-74.
Ron Holland buried a deep shot at the buzzer to end the period. The third quarter finished 83-76. Duncan Robinson then added several points early in the final frame. Detroit pushed its lead to 93-82.

The tie and the late-game numbers
James Harden scored two baskets and five free throws. The game was tied at 93-93. Detroit then put together another scoring burst. The Pistons scored 12 points to their opponents’ 3. Cade Cunningham set up Jalen Duren three times around the rim. Tobias Harris and Daniss Jenkins finished off the scoring.
The individual numbers tell the story. Cade Cunningham ended with 23 points and 7 assists. He made 6 of 19 shots. Duncan Robinson scored 19 points. Jalen Duren posted 11 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Game 2 of the series is set for tomorrow night.
