The result and the first half
Manchester City played Everton on Monday night, and it ended 3-3. The draw has a direct impact on the title race, with City losing ground to Arsenal in the battle for top spot.
Pep Guardiola’s side were on top in the first half. Jeremy Doku scored the opening goal of the game. The manager faced the press afterwards and backed his team’s attacking play. City created chances against a well-organised defence and looked comfortably in control.
The second-half mistakes
Everything changed after the break. Everton stepped up the physical battle and started winning the duels. City began to rack up errors all over the pitch.
Defender Marc Guehi played a pass towards his own goal and got away with it. Gianluigi Donnarumma saved a shot from Iliman Ndiaye, but he then fluffed an aerial challenge five minutes later. Jake O’Brien was on hand to punish the mistake. Midfielder Bernardo Silva said those kinds of errors cost the team points. Jeremy Doku struck again in the closing minutes, though, to earn City a point.

The table and the run-in
That result ended Manchester City’s six-game winning streak. Striker Erling Haaland reminded his teammates of the maths after the final whistle.
City are now five points behind leaders Arsenal. They still have four matches left. Arsenal have three to play. Bernardo Silva admitted his side are no longer the favourites, and Pep Guardiola agreed. The title now depends on Arsenal’s results. Even so, the manager praised his players for digging in to avoid defeat on the night.
