Ten goals, no mercy
San Jose scored ten times and conceded nothing, burying Anaheim 10-0 in a preseason rout that stopped resembling a real hockey game somewhere in the second period. Goaltender Ville Husso lasted two periods before getting pulled, having allowed six goals on nineteen shots. Brossoit came in to mop up, though the damage was already done by then.
Ivar Stenberg was the name everyone left the arena talking about. San Jose’s No. 2 pick in this year’s draft scored once in each period, a clean hat trick, and did it without ever looking like he was chasing the stat sheet. He won puck battles in the neutral zone, killed breakouts before they started, and still found the net three times. That two-way habit is exactly what scouts flagged when the Sharks took him, and it is rare to see a teenager play like the safest player on the ice in the same game he scores a hat trick.

Everyone got in on it
Mason Marchment scored twice. Igor Chernyshov scored twice. Michael Misa, the other prospect San Jose fans are watching closely this fall, added a goal and an assist, even though his power-play one-timer didn’t have much behind it on the night. Brett Leason and Filip Bystedt rounded out the scoring. Ten goals split across seven different scorers is not something San Jose will see again once the games start counting, but it says plenty about the forward depth the club has built heading into the season.
Anaheim’s picture is messier. Husso’s rough outing arrives just as the Ducks try to sort out who starts in net once the regular season opens, and getting pulled after two periods in a preseason blowout will not settle that argument. A 19-shot, 6-goal line is the kind of stat a goalie wants to forget quickly.
What it means going forward
Preseason routs rarely tell you who wins in April, but they do tell you who looks ready right now. Stenberg looked ready. So did Misa. San Jose still has roster decisions to make before opening night, and performances like this one make those calls a lot more interesting for a front office that has been patient with its rebuild.
