Sinner lifted the trophy on the London grass in mid-July, his fourth major title. Since then, nothing on court. No return date announced. Just the wait, and a knee dictating his schedule for him.
Beijing joins the growing list of missed tournaments. One more ATP 500 off the calendar, and an autumn build-up shrinking before the biggest events of the year-end run.
Zverev stands to gain
One man benefits from this withdrawal: Alexander Zverev. The German, Sinner’s closest pursuer in the rankings, sees his odds of finishing the year at No. 1 tick up another notch. Every week Sinner spends off tour pulls Zverev a little closer to a top ranking he’s never held.
