A twist-filled night at Ullevaal
Norway won 3-2 against Denmark on Thursday in their Nations League opener. Oscar Bobb struck first in the 14th minute. Erling Haaland doubled the lead four minutes later. Mikkel Damsgaard pulled one back in the 32nd minute, then Rasmus Højlund levelled it up just before the hour. Haaland settled it in the 74th minute with a second goal that finally killed the contest.
Martin Ødegaard ran the show from midfield and picked out several decisive passes for Norway’s goals. Late on, David Wolfe was shown two yellow cards in the space of a minute in the 94th minute, both for fouls on Patrick Dorgu and then Gustav Isaksen. Rasmus Højlund also saw a second-half effort smash against the post, agonisingly close to snatching a draw for Denmark.

28 years of frustration wiped out
The numbers tell the story. Norway had not beaten Denmark in a competitive match since 1998, a run stretching 28 years. That ended at Ullevaal, in front of a crowd firmly on the side of Odegaard and Haaland. The Manchester City striker has also kept up his ridiculous scoring rate for his country: his brace took him to 62 goals in 55 caps, a return close to a goal a game and already enough to put him among the great goalscorers in Scandinavian football.
Norway also stretched their home unbeaten run to 14 straight matches, dating back to March 2024. Denmark, meanwhile, are now on a miserable away run in the Nations League: six trips without a win.
A perfect start before the real test
This win gives Norway the ideal start in a group format where every point matters. Haaland, named man of the match, now carries the weight of Scandinavian expectation on his shoulders heading into the next round of fixtures. Denmark, for their part, need to sort themselves out quickly or risk seeing qualification slip away too soon.
