Alaba bounces back at Udinese
David Alaba has found a new home. The 34-year-old Austria international has signed for Udinese, who sit 13th in Serie A. The centre-back arrives on a free after leaving Real Madrid when his contract expired.
The Italian club confirmed he has put pen to paper on a deal running until 30 June 2027. Udinese described him as a player bringing “experience, leadership and a career at the very top level of world football”.

Five seasons in Madrid, a World Cup this summer
Alaba joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Bayern Munich and spent five seasons in the Spanish capital. He made 132 appearances, scored 5 goals and laid on 9 assists in all competitions. Injuries repeatedly interrupted his spell, but they never quite forced him out of the Madrid picture. Before Madrid, he had won almost everything at Munich, including ten straight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2020, the year Bayern completed the treble.
This summer, he featured at the 2026 World Cup with Austria, making 4 appearances and registering one assist. It was enough to show he can still cut it at the top level, even with his status as a free agent over the summer.

For Udinese, locked in the battle to avoid the drop from 13th, a defender of Alaba’s calibre is a gamble on know-how.
