A Hall of Famer at the top of Europe
3,454 metres. That’s the altitude where Adam Vinatieri lined up, and made, a kick now certified by Guinness World Records. It happened Tuesday at Jungfraujoch in the Swiss Alps, a spot they call the “Top of Europe.” Snow underfoot, a headwind in his face, 11,332 feet of thin air: the former kicker split the uprights in conditions no NFL field has ever asked of him on a Sunday afternoon.
“Snow has always been part of my story with the Patriots,” Vinatieri said afterward. “But hitting a field goal at 3,454 metres is nothing like anything I’ve done before. You feel the altitude in every breath. Your heart rate shifts. Your breathing changes.”

Twenty-four seasons, two jerseys, four rings
The record lands just a month after his Hall of Fame induction in Canton back in August. Vinatieri is 53 now, and his career was built on lasting: ten seasons with the Patriots, fourteen with the Colts, four Super Bowl rings, three Pro Bowl nods, and more than 2,600 career points. Few kickers in league history have scored more, in a job that has always carried more weight than it gets credit for when the lights come on.
His last official NFL field goal came December 1, 2019, in a Colts uniform. Almost seven years on, it was the Patriots jersey he pulled back on for that glacier in Switzerland.
A nod to Munich
The stunt wasn’t random. It’s tied to the franchise’s build-up toward its November 15 trip to Munich to face the Detroit Lions. A world record, repackaged as a marketing beat: the league still knows how to send its legends around the globe, all the way up to the roof of Europe.
