Eight European crowns land in a stadium’s first big night
Eight Champions League titles. No other club in Europe’s women’s game can match that number. OL Lyonnes open their campaign on Wednesday, September 23, in Geneva, kicking off the competition’s opening round at 18h45 French time, inside a stadium that has never hosted a match of this size before.
For Servette, reaching this stage already feels like a windfall. The club scraped into the league phase at the last moment, a first for them at this level of European competition. Lyon, on the other hand, are eyeing the top end of the new 18-team format, where the top four go straight to the quarterfinals and everyone else drops into the play-offs. Not that it changes much for the Rhone club. They’ve been fixtures at the sharp end of Europe for close to 20 years now.

Disney+ has the only broadcast
There’s no free-to-air option this time. Disney+ holds exclusive rights to the Women’s Champions League in France, and that includes every match on this opening day. The platform streams on phones, tablets, computers and smart TVs, and it’s also available through the set-top boxes of the main internet providers. Beyond the usual write-ups on specialist sites, there’s no live coverage without a subscription, so plan ahead if you don’t want to miss kickoff.
