Two wins on the bounce, and Auxerre still decided to change the staff.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that Samba Diawara is the new assistant coach, taking over from Jean-Alain Boumsong, whom AJA thanked for his work. It isn’t a random hire. Diawara worked next to Will Still at Stade de Reims from 2022, and the former pro even took charge twice as interim head coach there. Still is getting a number two who already knows exactly how he likes to work.

Fair question. After a rocky start, Auxerre have found some form, and last weekend’s win over Brest made it two straight in Ligue 1. The club insists the timing is fine.

Still has been settling into life in the Yonne bit by bit, and he wants to build on what is clicking. Reuniting the Reims pairing is part of that.

Boumsong’s exit left unexplained

As for Boumsong, the former France defender who also turned out for Juventus and Lyon had been working as an assistant in the Auxerre set-up. The club gave no reason for his departure.
