A pain that will not go away
March. Then September. Maybe October next.
Benjamin Sesko has been carrying the same shin problem for six months. The Slovenian striker is in London for tests during the international break, and Manchester United are waiting on the MRI result.
He started against Brighton in the Carabao Cup, a 3-2 defeat. The pain came straight back. He then missed the trip to Craven Cottage, where United were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham.
Michael Carrick promised nothing afterwards. “We still don’t know about Ben. He felt some pain after the Brighton match, so we’re assessing him,” the manager said. “He was clearly not ready for that game. I don’t have anything more to add at the moment.”

Slovenia is worried, and the reasoning stacks up
Slovenian outlet Ekipa put it bluntly. “It doesn’t look good.”
The paper points at the type of injury. No clean break. Nothing to stitch, nothing to put in a cast. Just a bone that hurts, for months, with nobody quite sure why. Ekipa describes conditions that are “generally chronic” and calls the outlook very uncertain.
The history behind it does not help. The same shin cost Sesko the last three matches of last season. He then missed the whole of United’s pre-season. At 23, this is a third spell out with the same problem.
Slovenia are unlikely to see him any time soon.
Guirassy is on the January list
United are not sitting still. TEAMtalk report that the club are watching Serhou Guirassy ahead of the winter window. The Borussia Dortmund striker drew interest from Tottenham and Chelsea over the summer, and Arsenal have liked him for a while.
Do not read too far into it, though. The same report says United have no intention of moving Sesko on, with the striker still central to the club’s sporting plan.
Which leaves the calendar. If the MRI confirms what the Slovenian press fears, Carrick has to get to January with whatever bodies he has left.
