A return is lined up for Wednesday
Seattle is expecting Sam Darnold back at practice on Wednesday. Mike Macdonald said as much on Monday during his weekly radio appearance, then backed it up in front of the media.
“Right now, the plan is for him to be on the field in some capacity, and we’ll take it from there,” the Seahawks head coach said. “How many reps, we’ll know by Wednesday. But for now, that’s the goal.”
The quarterback hurt his glute on the fifth play of the season, on September 9 against New England. The team described the soft-tissue injury as unusual, while insisting his absence would be short. Darnold missed Week 2, a 31-7 win at Arizona.

No injured reserve, so the door stays open
Seattle did not place Darnold on short-term injured reserve. That admin call matters: it keeps the option of a return as soon as Week 3, against the Washington Commanders.
Drew Lock handled the job without blinking. Two games, two wins, against the Patriots and then the Cardinals. Over that stretch, he has thrown for 422 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Macdonald shut down any talk of a quarterback battle. “If Sam can play, he’ll play,” he said flatly.
The champ still holds the job
Darnold is 29. Since entering the league with the Jets in 2018, he has put up 20,444 passing yards, 123 touchdowns and 82 interceptions in 101 games, including 91 starts, across five franchises.
His first season in Seattle finished with 4,048 yards, 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. It ended with the franchise’s second Super Bowl title.
Macdonald also gave an update on Jadarian Price. The rookie running back, a first-round pick, left in the fourth quarter at Arizona with a shoulder issue. According to the coach, it “should not be anything long term.”
