Nine minutes in, and it was already going wrong for RSL
Oliver Larraz drove at the Real Salt Lake box. His shot took a deflection off Brian White’s right foot and rolled in. Vancouver led inside ten minutes at Sandy, Utah, and the night never turned back.

Muller and Diaby finish the job
The second came in the 29th minute and ran through three players. White let an Edier Ocampo pass roll across him to Yadaly Diaby, Diaby found Thomas Muller, and the German drilled a right-footed shot into the top left corner.
Diaby got his own in the 63rd. Real Salt Lake lost the ball deep in their own half, he collected it, split two defenders and finished low into the right corner with his left foot.
Vancouver could have had a fourth. Ryan Gauld hit the crossbar in the 85th. Yohei Takaoka made three saves for his 11th clean sheet of the campaign, and the shot count read 20-13 to the visitors, six on target against three.
RSL’s season keeps unravelling
Twelve matches now without a win for Real Salt Lake. Their last victory came on May 16. Since then: no wins, eight defeats, four draws, and a slide to a share of 12th in the Western Conference on 29 points.
The news this week that Diego Luna is out for the season with a knee injury took away the one player capable of changing a game on his own. Rafael Cabral made three saves, which flatters nobody given how often Vancouver walked through the middle.
At the other end of the table, the Whitecaps sit on 49 points, five clear at the top of the West.
