Seven minutes, two goals, game done
It was 3:03pm and Hull still hadn’t touched the ball in Newcastle’s half.
Harvey Barnes slipped a pass into space, Joe Willock set himself on the edge of the box and Konstantinos Tzolakis had no answer. Newcastle’s first proper attack, Newcastle’s first goal. Four minutes later, Barnes did it again. A burst forward, a cutback, Lewis Hall guided it into the far corner. Two assists in seven minutes for the English winger.
St James’ Park could hardly believe it. Neither could Hull.

Then Newcastle took their foot off the gas
And that’s where it got interesting. The Magpies had the ball, the chances and the control. Jacob Murphy sent over a perfect cross that Yoane Wissa and Barnes both failed to make count. Hall then blazed over with the goal gaping. 3-0 would have buried it.
It never came.
Hull came out after the break with plenty more bite. The Tigers pressed higher, shoved Newcastle back and made them look uncomfortable. Mohamed-Ali Cho came on and scored four minutes later. A strike that kissed the post on its way in. 2-1 just after the hour.
Four games in, and Hull have nothing to apologise for
The final 25 minutes felt long for the home side. Hull kept going right to the end, but never found the equaliser.
The promoted side had arrived unbeaten in the Premier League. That run ends at St James’ Park, in a match where the Tigers were the better team for a full half. Not many promoted clubs can say that after four games.
For Newcastle, three points and a warning. A 2-0 lead thrown away in twenty minutes is the kind of thing that costs you in March. Eddie Howe knows it. So do his players.
