Villa hit three in London
Nineteenth place, one point, three defeats in four. That was Aston Villa’s season until this afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. They left it with a 3-2 win and their first three points of the campaign, in Premier League Matchday 5.
Johan Manzambi opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, set up by Boubacar Kamara. Nicolas Jackson made it 2-0 on 67 minutes with a strike from the edge of the box after an assist from Manzambi. Emiliano Buendia then curled a long-range effort into the top corner to make it 3-0.
Zion Suzuki held firm between the posts. The visiting keeper produced a string of vital saves to keep out Tottenham’s attacks. Spurs pulled two goals back late on, but it was far too late to change anything.

Tottenham sink deeper, Roberto De Zerbi under pressure
Spurs are still without a win after five league games. Before this one, they had not even scored in four matches. Two draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton, one defeat, and just two points on the board.
Roberto De Zerbi had at least been given a full summer to work after saving the club last season. Tottenham finished 17th with 41 points, just two clear of West Ham, the first side relegated. The start to 2026-27 looks worryingly familiar.
The week had already gone badly for the London side, beaten 3-1 by Liverpool in the EFL Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
Transfers starting to pay off
For Villa, this result backs up a late transfer window gamble. Manzambi, Jackson and Ibrahim Mbaye all arrived at the end of the window. Emery admitted this week that his squad was still bedding in and, in effect, still in pre-season.
The Villans were coming off a 3-1 win at Coventry in the Carabao Cup and a 3-2 victory at Bruges in the Champions League. The club finished 4th last season with 65 points. The cup form was there. The league form now has somewhere to start from.
