Leavitt removed from the report as LSU keeps everyone guessing
Doubtful on Wednesday. Questionable on Thursday. Gone from the list entirely by Friday night. Sam Leavitt’s week has been a moving target, and LSU pulled its quarterback off the SEC medical report on the eve of the showdown with Ole Miss in Oxford.
Under SEC rules, a doubtful player is given a 25% chance of playing and is still seen as unlikely to suit up. Questionable bumps that to 50%. Off the report means nothing at all, officially.
The injury itself remains a mystery. Two different stories have been doing the rounds since the start of the week: back spasms or a sore throwing shoulder. LSU has never cleared it up. Lane Kiffin said nothing on Monday in his press conference. He stayed quiet again on Thursday night on his weekly radio show.

Ole Miss suspects a bluff
Ole Miss staff do not buy it. ESPN reported on Friday that the Rebels believe LSU is not being straight about the situation. The backdrop only adds to the suspicion. Kiffin coached Ole Miss before moving to Baton Rouge. Now he faces his old team, with questions swirling around his starting quarterback.
SEC rules allow for a punishment. A first inaccurate or late report brings a $25,000 fine. The call rests with commissioner Greg Sankey, who can choose whether to hand it out.
Four interceptions in two games, and the Tigers still need him
Leavitt has had a mixed start to the season. In two games for LSU, he has completed 41 of 66 passes for 574 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. That ratio is a concern. On the ground, he has more than made up for it with 135 rushing yards and five scores.
The Arizona State transfer remains the key man in the Tigers offence. LSU comes in ranked No. 7 in the country. Ole Miss is right behind at No. 8. Whoever wins gets a clear edge in the race for the College Football Playoff.
The uncertainty over Leavitt changes the shape of the game. It changes the odds too.
