Second pitch of the night, gone
Mookie Betts swung at Cesar Perdomo’s second pitch of the game overnight and drove it over the fence in left-center. That was the 53rd leadoff home run of his career, and it put the Los Angeles Dodgers in front before the Giants had recorded an out. They finished 8-2 winners.
San Francisco answered quickly. Jung Hoo Lee tied it in the second with a shot to right. In the third, Scott Bandura singled, stole second, and came around when Jonah Cox lined an RBI single to left. The Giants led 2-1 and held it into the fifth.
De Paula and Betts opened that inning with singles, and Teoscar Hernandez brought one home with a single to right. In the sixth, Kyle Tucker walked, Jason Foley retired two, and Josue De Paula drove a double into the right-center gap to put Los Angeles ahead for good.

Four homers in one inning
Then came the eighth. Philip Abner threw three pitches to start it and Max Muncy hit the third one over the wall in right-center. Two pitches later Tucker cleared the same fence. Two outs after that, De Paula walked and Betts homered to left-center for 7-2, and Will Smith took the second pitch of his at-bat over the wall in center.
Five home runs on the night, four of them in that inning. Tyler Glasnow had already done his part, striking out a season-high 10 over six innings while allowing two runs on three hits and two walks. He moves to 5-1 and is now 7-1 in ten career appearances against San Francisco.
Where Betts sits on the list
The leadoff homer count puts Betts level with Hall of Famer Craig Biggio for fourth on the all-time list. Alfonso Soriano is one ahead in third. George Springer holds second place with 65, and Rickey Henderson remains far out in front with 81. Betts has hit 33 of his leading off for the Dodgers after 20 with the Boston Red Sox.
Los Angeles improve to 94-60, a twelfth win in fifteen games, and stay two games behind Milwaukee at 96-58 in the race for the best record in baseball. The Giants fall to 64-90 and have now lost five of seven.
