A wasted summer that has left its mark
Julian Alvarez wants a fresh start. The Atletico Madrid striker is considering parting ways with Fernando Hidalgo, his agent since the start of his career. The news comes from Spanish radio Onda Cero.
The 26-year-old Argentine did everything he could this summer to join Barcelona. He said so in public, too. Atletico never opened the door, and the deal went nowhere until the window shut.
According to the station, people close to the player feel his representative did not do enough. The complaint is simple: no solution was found.

Javier Pastore in the frame
Alvarez is said to have already made contact elsewhere. The name being mentioned is Javier Pastore, the former PSG midfielder who has switched into agenting. Pastore already works with Enzo Fernandez, the striker’s friend and fellow Argentine.
The timing is no accident. Alvarez still hopes to move to Catalonia in January, and Barca are continuing to monitor his situation. Switching intermediaries a few weeks before the winter window opens looks like groundwork.
At Atletico, Hidalgo has little credit left. The club holds him responsible for the summer circus and the mood that has built up around their striker.
A big-money signing under strain
The Colchoneros broke the bank in 2024 to prise him away from Manchester City, in one of the most expensive deals in their history. Two years on, the 2022 world champion is going through a difficult season in Madrid.
For the club, the issue goes far beyond one agent. Letting Alvarez leave in January would mean writing off their biggest investment at the worst possible point in the season. Keeping him against his wishes would not exactly bring calm to the dressing room either.
Nothing has been signed. The split with Hidalgo is still just an idea, and Pastore has not been handed any official role.
