Six years with Brazil, and now a Rio dugout
Six years is an eternity for a Brazil manager. Tite had them, from 2016 to 2022, and he has now signed with Botafogo until the end of 2028. The club put the announcement out on its social channels late last night and leaned hard on the CV: the national team, the domestic titles, all of it.
This is not a club taking a flyer on someone who needs the work. Before Brazil, Tite’s Corinthians won the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup in the same year, 2012, beating Chelsea in the Yokohama final. Few coaches in the country can point to a season like that.

The staff that travels with him
He brought his people. Matheus Bachi comes in as assistant, Fabio Mahseredjian handles the fitness side. Both have worked under Tite for years and need no briefing on how he wants things run.
Botafogo’s own technical department is staying put, with Rodrigo Bellao added to it. Nobody has torn the building down. The club is stacking expertise on top of what already worked, and the existing structure carries on underneath the new staff.
Two years is a long contract in this league
Brazilian clubs change managers the way other leagues change formations. Dugouts turn over in weeks. Handing a coach of Tite’s standing a deal that runs past two full seasons says something about where Botafogo think they are heading.
Then there is the awkward part. He did not pick this squad, and the calendar is already running. That is where the judgement will come from.
