A win with a sour aftertaste for Baltimore
The Ravens got their season off to the best possible start on Sunday in Indianapolis, cruising to a no-nonsense 41-23 win. The medical bulletin the next day was a lot less cheerful.
According to several US media outlets, rookie receiver Ja’Kobi Lane has a broken wrist picked up during the game. The 22-year-old, taken in the third round of the draft, is undergoing an MRI on Monday to confirm the initial diagnosis.
His NFL debut amounted to one catch from three targets for 11 yards. Not exactly a heavy workload, but the staff had been hoping to ease him in and let him build up over the coming weeks.

A receiver room suddenly looking thin
Lane is not the only one hurt. Zay Flowers, the team’s top receiver, also left the game with a hamstring issue. NFL Network says the warning signs are not being treated as serious, which at least limits the damage for now.
The timing makes both setbacks sting that bit more. Baltimore spent the offseason beefing up its receiving corps, so losing two pieces in Week 1 immediately puts the depth chart under the microscope.
Lane’s college record explains why the franchise made the pick. At Southern California from 2023 to 2025, he hauled in 99 passes for 1,363 yards and 18 touchdowns in 30 games. That works out at 13.8 yards per catch and a touchdown every 5.5 receptions: red-zone production, exactly the sort of target Baltimore wanted near the goal line.
The schedule won’t wait
The Ravens (1-0) host the New Orleans Saints (0-1) next Sunday. A broken wrist for a receiver is not something that clears up in six days, and the length of Lane’s absence will depend entirely on what the scans show.
For a third-round rookie, every missed week hurts. Timing with the quarterback is built on reps, and a player sidelined in September often comes back playing catch-up right through the autumn. Baltimore knows that, and will have to make do without him for a while.
