“We battered them”
That line did not come from a polished club statement. It came from the dressing room, at volume. “What the hell just happened… We battered them,” Auxerre’s players shouted, with Ligue 1+ cameras standing right in the middle of it. The clips travelled all weekend and were still doing the rounds on Monday morning.
The noise made sense once you knew the backstory. Auxerre had not won a game all season. Then on Saturday, an Archer goal after the break was enough to sink Nice. 1-0. Nothing fancy on paper.
Wins like that are not judged on style points.

A club legend back in the huddle, 20 years on
One familiar face stood in the middle of the chaos. Djibril Cisse was there, bouncing around with the current squad, and of course the moment got people talking.
Look at what he means to Auxerre and it makes sense. He came through the club, broke out in the early 2000s, then left for Liverpool in 2004. Two Ligue 1 golden boots in the AJA shirt, in 2002 and 2004. That kind of history gets you through any dressing-room door.
Auxerre carry a bigger story too. French champions in 1996 under Guy Roux, then two decades bouncing between the top flight and Ligue 2. Every comeback has been a tightrope walk.
Nice alone at the bottom
Three points. They pull Auxerre out of a rotten run and leave Nice on their own at the foot of the table. Two clubs, two moods, flipped in ninety minutes.
Nobody is calling it a turning point off one result. The fixture list does not hand out favours, and the football on show before Saturday had convinced almost nobody at the Abbaye-Deschamps.
Auxerre travel again next weekend still without an away point this season.
