Serie A: Adzic sinks his own club as Sassuolo shock Juventus 3-2

Four goals in twelve minutes at the Mapei

Vasilije Adzic is a Juventus player. Sassuolo took him on loan this summer. In the 94th minute on Sunday night, he scored the goal that beat the club that owns his contract.

A year ago almost to the day, he was the one winning a match for Juve, against Inter Milan. The sport occasionally arranges these things with a straight face.

Sassuolo won 3-2. It is Juventus’ first defeat of the season, and for more than an hour there was no sign of it coming.

Zhegrova scored twice and still lost

Sebastiano Esposito broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. The Neroverdi dug in. A quiet 1-0 seemed to be the direction of travel.

Then the 82nd minute happened. Edon Zhegrova levelled. Bowie restored the Sassuolo lead in the 89th. Zhegrova equalised again a minute into stoppage time for his brace, and 2-2 felt like a fair place to stop.

It did not stop. Adzic struck in the 94th, the Turin back line came apart one final time, and the Kosovo international walked off with two goals and nothing else.

Eighth and ninth, separated by one place

Juventus sit eighth in Serie A. Sassuolo are directly behind them in ninth. A club that spends every August talking about the Scudetto, and a side that came up from Serie B, currently divided by a single position.

In Emilia-Romagna they will still be talking about this one in December.
