Five RBIs to dig out of a four-month hole
One double. That was all that separated Kyle Tucker from the cycle on Friday night in Miami. Three hits in three official at-bats, five runs driven in, a season high on a night when the Dodgers needed someone to carry the lineup. Los Angeles won 6-2.
The Dodgers keep rolling. Eight straight wins, a 90-57 record, first place in the National League West. Miami is headed the other way with seven losses in its last eight and a 72-76 mark.
Tucker’s timing helps. He walked into this one tracking toward a fourth consecutive month with an OPS at or below .700, which is not what Los Angeles had in mind back in January when it put four years and 240 million dollars in front of him.

67 home runs’ worth of bats on the shelf
The gap between this Tucker and the recent one is wide. He closed out the previous two seasons at .993 and .841 OPS. He sits on 14 home runs in 2026 after five straight years clearing 20.
Los Angeles needs the older version back. Shohei Ohtani is out with inflammation in his right biceps, Freddie Freeman is dealing with a sore right knee, Andy Pages has a left-hand problem. Those three account for 67 home runs this season.
The manager in the other dugout saw it coming. “Regardless of how this season has gone, Tucker is still a dangerous hitter,” Clayton McCullough said. “He handles left-handers well. He got a broken ball in a bad spot and changed the game for them.” Josue De Paula made his major league debut in the same game and went 0-for-3 with a walk.
Glasnow’s ninth start, and the numbers behind it
Tyler Glasnow gets the ball to keep the streak alive. He is 4-0 with a 3.12 ERA, and the rate stats are loud: 5.3 hits, 2.7 walks and 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings. The Dodgers are 8-2 when he starts. This will be his fourth outing since a layoff that ran close to three months. He is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in five career starts against Miami.
The Marlins answer with Tyler Phillips (5-6, 3.51), a pitcher whose career splits read like two different careers: 2.49 out of the bullpen across 71 appearances, 5.13 as a starter across 25. Miami is also waiting on Otto Lopez to rediscover the swing that made him a first-time All-Star. The shortstop hit .322 in April, .339 in May, .340 in June, then slid to .236 in August. Four hits in five at-bats Friday pushed him back to .342 for September.
