Glenn makes his call for Nashville
The Jets have made their choice. Jason Sanders will be their starting kicker on Sunday for the season opener away to the Tennessee Titans in Nashville.
Aaron Glenn confirmed the decision today. New York will promote Sanders from the practice squad while keeping Blake Grupe on the 53-man roster.
But the head coach is not shutting the door just yet. “Jason is going to kick this week. He got most of the reps,” Glenn said. “The thing is, with Grupe, I want to make sure he gets a real chance. He only got here last week. He has not had many opportunities. I want to give him the chance he deserves to compete. So I want to let it play out.”

Seven years in the AFC East count for something
Sanders knows this division inside out. He spent his first seven seasons in Miami, facing the Jets twice a year.
The numbers stack up. He hit 84.6% of his field goals for the Dolphins between 2018 and 2024, converting 187 of 221 attempts. He was even better on extra points, making 96.6%, or 259 of 268, across 116 games.
There is a catch, though. The 30-year-old did not play a game last season. Sunday will be his first competitive action in more than a year, in a road stadium, on opening weekend.
Grupe waits, and one miss could flip it
Blake Grupe, 27, was claimed off waivers from Indianapolis on August 31. He arrives with 50 games under his belt, split between the New Orleans Saints from 2023 to 2025 and the Colts in 2025.
His record: 81.9% on field goals, 86 from 105, and 98% on extra points, 96 from 98. Less accurate than Sanders from range, more reliable on the routine stuff.
The two will share the job for a few weeks. The first miss will probably decide what happens next, as is often the case at kicker.
