Ligue 1: Marseille without Kondogbia and Nnadi at Rennes

Two weeks on from Monaco, still nothing

The injuries happened in Monaco a fortnight ago. Neither man has come back since, and neither will be on the pitch at Roazhon Park on Friday night. Bruno Genesio confirmed it at his Thursday press conference: Geoffrey Kondogbia and Tochukwu Nnadi are out.

“Kondogbia is in rehab work and he is improving,” the Marseille boss said. Pressed for a date, he refused. “I don’t like giving deadlines for a muscle injury. We have to take it day by day. We might be looking at a return after the break.”

Genesio is patching the same hole again

Nnadi’s update read almost identically. “Tochukwu is improving too, but he won’t be ready for Rennes, and there’s not much chance he’ll make it before the international break.”

So Marseille lose two bodies in a department where the cover was already thin. Genesio has been reshuffling that part of his side since August, and he has to do it once more.

The calendar is unkind. Marseille arrive in Brittany five days after losing at home to Paris FC (3-2), two weeks after the defeat in Monaco.

A third straight loss would start to hurt

Lose on Friday and it becomes three consecutive Ligue 1 defeats. Clubs with European ambitions do not absorb runs like that quietly, and the table does not wait for injured midfielders to heal.

Kick-off is 20:45. Rennes get a weakened opponent, and one carrying real pressure.
