Seven in a row, and two stars watched from the dugout
Shohei Ohtani did not play. Freddie Freeman did not play. Los Angeles still hung 14 runs on Cincinnati and walked off with a seventh consecutive win, their longest run of the year, to move to 89-57.
The sweep was the whole point. Three games, three wins, and a 7-2 homestand banked before the Dodgers set off on their final multi-city road trip of the season.
Ohtani was rested with knee and biceps issues nagging at him. That is six absences in the last seven games. Freeman sat out with a knee problem of his own.

10 strikeouts from Yamamoto, three hits apiece from Betts and Tucker
Yoshinobu Yamamoto worked seven innings and gave up a single run on three hits, walking one and striking out 10. The Japanese right-hander is 13-8.
Mookie Betts opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the third, his 19th of the season and his third in seven games. He ended the night with three hits. So did Kyle Tucker.
Then came the fourth. Six runs, and the game was over as a contest: an RBI double from Alex Freeland, a two-run double from Enrique Hernandez, a wild pitch, and a two-run single from Teoscar Hernandez that pushed his RBI streak to seven games, a career best.
Max Muncy tacked on a two-run shot in the sixth. Enrique Hernandez went deep in the seventh. Tucker finished the job in the eighth against catcher Jose Trevino, who had been handed the ball to mop up.
Cincinnati arrived hot and left in pieces
The Reds are 69-77 and 0-3 into a six-game trip. What makes it sting is where they had just been: 6-3 against the Cubs, Padres and Brewers, three clubs fighting for October.
Rhett Lowder took the worst of it. Seven runs in three and a third innings, seven hits, two walks, four strikeouts. He drops to 6-10.
Elly De La Cruz gave the visitors something. His fourth-inning homer off Yamamoto was his fifth in five straight games, and his 26th of the season is already a career high.
