LaLiga: Malaga circling free agent Anthony Martial

Thirty years old, no club, and back on the bargain list

Benzema. Pogba. Mahrez. Carvajal. Alaba. Guerreiro. Anthony Martial is on that list now, the one scouts pull out once the window has slammed shut and somebody upstairs decides the squad is a body short in attack.

Radio Marca reported on Wednesday that Martial has been offered to Malaga.

The Spanish outlet says the club is taking it seriously. The forward line is thin. Martial can play across the front, he has been in dressing rooms that matter, and according to the same report he wants the move badly enough to accept less money to get it.

Two French clubs already got a no

Offers are not the problem. Foot Mercato reported earlier this week that two Ligue 1 sides had put contracts in front of him. Both were turned down.

Which is what makes the Spanish angle worth watching. Going home to France did not interest him. Spain apparently does.

Lyon, Monaco, Manchester, Seville, Athens, Monterrey

He came through at Lyon, made his name at Monaco, then went to Manchester United and spent nine years alternating between unplayable and invisible. Sevilla on loan. AEK Athens. CF Monterrey in Mexico.

Every stop came with the same script. New start, promising few weeks, then the slow disappearance.

Malaga would not be a route back to the top level and nobody involved is pretending otherwise. It would be a place to play every week without anyone watching too closely. Radio Marca stresses that no deal has been agreed, and Malaga have not spoken publicly.
