A starter who shut the door
Seven and a third innings, four hits, two runs, five strikeouts, two walks. Tarik Skubal carried the Dodgers through a 3-2 win over the Reds in Los Angeles, their sixth in a row. His record moves to 9-7.
The two-time American League Cy Young winner came over just before the August 3 deadline. Seven starts in, he is 2-2 with a 2.84 ERA, 48 strikeouts and 10 walks for his new club. Tanner Scott closed the ninth for save number 22.

Teoscar Hernandez keeps doing it
Hernandez went 3-for-3 with a walk. He is hitting .484 across his last nine games. His single to center in the fifth put the Dodgers back in front and finished Nick Lodolo’s night.
Will Smith had opened the scoring in the first with a two-run homer off Lodolo, two outs on the board. The Dodgers added one in the second when Tommy Edman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Lodolo (3-4) gave up three runs across 4 2/3.
Shohei Ohtani sat out with a sore knee and biceps. Freddie Freeman took the designated hitter spot and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
Elly De La Cruz tried everything
Four hundred and forty-four feet. That is how far De La Cruz hit an 87 mph changeup from Skubal in the third, a two-run shot to center that tied the game and became the longest home run at Dodger Stadium this season. It was his fourth consecutive game with a homer, matching his career best, and his 25th of the year, level with the franchise record for a switch-hitter.
Then he did it in the field. On a Hernandez drive into the gap, De La Cruz ran from shortstop out to center, took the relay and fired a 106 mph throw home. Hernandez, going for an inside-the-park homer, was out at the plate.
Cincinnati had the tying run in scoring position in the eighth after a De La Cruz double. Sal Stewart struck out, a Dodgers challenge upheld by the automated pitch review system.
