Washington’s leading rusher on Sunday was its quarterback
That stat was strange enough before the injury news landed. Demond Williams Jr. put up 61 yards and a touchdown on the ground in a 24-10 Apple Cup win, more than anyone in the Huskies backfield managed. Then Monday brought the bill for that victory: Quaid Carr and Jayden Limar, the top two backs on the roster, are both out for weeks.
Carr needs surgery on a hand injury. Jedd Fisch confirmed as much on Monday. The starter had five carries for 28 yards before going down in the second quarter.
Limar made it further into the afternoon. The Oregon transfer led the team with 12 carries for 47 yards and a score, then hurt his elbow.

Fisch will not put a date on any of it
“I know they won’t be back for a while,” the head coach said, per ESPN, declining to say whether either player is done for the year. No timeline, no target game, nothing.
Washington was already running thin at the position before Sunday. Losing both of the players it actually trusted with carries in week two turns a depth question into something closer to a problem.
Cooley and Bonner get thrown into it
Fisch has settled on his answer. Trey Cooley, who touched the ball four times against Washington State, moves to the top of the rotation. Freshman Brian Bonner is behind him.
Between them they have almost no meaningful college snaps. That is the group Washington takes into the rest of September, which probably means more designed runs for Williams and a quarterback absorbing hits the Huskies would rather he did not take.
