NFL: Henderson doubtful, Brown out as Seahawks host Patriots opener

One less center for the Patriots

Ben Brown did not make the trip. That was the first call on Monday night. The New England offensive lineman will miss the opener because of a knee issue, the franchise confirmed after his name was missing from the travel list.

Jared Wilson should step in at center. A third-round pick in the 2025 class, thrown straight into the fire for the first game of the season. There are easier ways to make your debut.

Elsewhere, the news is better. Christian Barmore is back in business. The defensive tackle sat out Sunday practice with a knee issue, then got through everything on Monday. He’ll play.

TreVeyon Henderson, the real question mark

Two straight missed practices, Sunday and Monday, and an ankle that is clearly bothering him. New England have not officially ruled out TreVeyon Henderson, but the signs are hardly encouraging. If the running back stays on the sideline, Rhamondre Stevenson takes back the lead role.

For Seattle, two safeties are on the injury report. Nick Emmanwori was limited in practice with an ankle problem. Mike Macdonald said he did more than in earlier sessions, which is at least a step in the right direction. Ty Okada, meanwhile, did nothing at all because of a hamstring issue.

Receiver Tory Horton, also dealing with a hamstring problem, and offensive lineman Josh Jones, nursing a knee injury, were limited as well on Monday.

The countdown is on

The two teams meet in Seattle on Wednesday to kick off the season. There are still two days of practice left before kickoff, which gives Henderson and Emmanwori a bit of time. Not much.

The Tuesday report and the Wednesday one will tell the rest. That is usually when doubt turns into a no-show.
