Ninety-seven minutes, and a screen to consult
FC Dallas were level and the clock had run out when Moises Mosquera clipped Petar Musa right on the edge of the penalty area. The referee gave a free kick. The video review took a while and changed the decision. Musa put the ball on the spot and beat the goalkeeper for a 4-3 win over Sporting Kansas City.
It was his second of the match and his 18th of the season, which pulls him level with Lionel Messi at the top of the MLS scoring charts. Two months ago that race looked settled. It is not.
Dallas move to 37 points from 23 matches at 10-6-7, tightening their grip on a Western Conference playoff place. The margin is thin. They have been outscored 14-11 across their last four games and still come away with a 2-1-1 return, which says something about how they are winning rather than how well they are playing.

Kansas City led twice and lost anyway
Sporting owned the first 26 minutes. Capita forced a save from Jonathan Sirois inside four minutes and Taylor Calheira turned in the rebound. In the 20th, Ramiro dawdled over a clearance, Afrifa read it, stepped in and chipped into an empty net for 2-0.
Dallas then scored with their first two chances. Logan Farrington struck in the 27th. Musa headed in a Bernard Kamungo cross three minutes later. Kaick hammered one in from outside the arc on the stroke of half time to turn the match around inside 18 minutes.
Calheira headed in an Emir Karic delivery in the 78th to level it, his second goal of the night and only his second in 15 MLS appearances. Then came Mosquera’s challenge.
A homecoming and a collapse
This was Dallas’ first match at Toyota Stadium since 13 May, the venue having been closed for renovations through the summer. They marked it with four goals and a heart rate to match.
Kansas City leave with nothing again. The defeat stretches their winless run to seven matches at 1-6-0 and leaves them bottom of the entire league on 15 points from 23 games.
