Not a single competitive minute
Twenty-six million euros, and nothing to show for it yet. Emmanuel Emegha signed for Chelsea in 2025, went straight back out on loan to Strasbourg for a season, and arrived in London this summer. The 23-year-old Dutch striker has not played a competitive match for the club.
The paper trail is short. Out of the squad entirely for the first two Premier League fixtures. Named on the bench for the League Cup second-round tie with Luton, never used. His one outing came in a closed-doors friendly against Crawley, where he did score.

A hamstring, then a transfer list
A hamstring issue in late July cost him close to three weeks. While he was out, The Athletic reported that Chelsea had added him to a list of players they would let go, along with Marc Guiu, Liam Delap, Nicolas Jackson and Joao Pedro. Emegha stayed at Stamford Bridge. He still is not playing.
Xabi Alonso fielded the question in a press conference. “He is young, he has special qualities. We hope he feels better and does what is needed to become more involved. Young players have to be patient, but they will get their chance,” the Spaniard said. Read that back slowly and the message is not especially warm.
Strasbourg has not let go of him either
The numbers there hold up: 31 goals, 7 assists, 78 games. The exit did not. La Meinau booed him once the Chelsea move went public. He later turned up in a Blues shirt after a match against Rennes, then faced supporters following the Conference League semi-final loss to Rayo Vallecano in street clothes and sunglasses.
Then came the summer. Ronald Koeman left him out of the Netherlands squad for the 2026 World Cup, citing his condition. Emegha wanted London to be a clean slate. He is expected to watch Arsenal from the stands.
