He said no the first time around
Hugh Jackman got a letter around a year ago. It asked him, as a confirmed Norwich City supporter, whether he would be willing to become a small shareholder in the club.
He turned it down.
He explained why himself on talkSport: “I said, ‘I think that’s a bit much, I have only been to Carrow Road once, my mum took me there,’ so I decided not to invest.” One visit to the stadium, by his own recollection. Not enough to write a cheque.
Since then, he has had a change of heart.

“I am actually talking about it right now”
“I am very, very interested and I am actually talking about it right now,” the Australian actor said. Nothing is signed. No figures have been put on the table. The talks are real, though, and he is not hiding that.
He also corrected the record on how often he has been there. “I have been to Carrow Road a few times, I love the Canaries.” Then came the prediction: “This year, we are going up. I am backing Norwich and Wrexham to be promoted this year.”
Norwich and Wrexham. Both clubs are in the Championship. The latter belongs to Ryan Reynolds, Jackman’s on-screen partner in the Deadpool universe. The former is now just waiting for his signature.
Wrexham turned a vanity buy into a business model
Reynolds bought Wrexham in 2021 with Rob McElhenney, when the club was stuck in the fifth tier of English football. What happened next is well known: three straight promotions, a documentary watched around the world, a packed stadium and a level of fame that bore no relation to the football on the pitch.
That is why this feels believable. A major actor taking a stake in a Championship club is no longer a billionaire’s plaything. It comes with broadcast money, shirt sales around the world and a fanbase built thousands of miles from the ground.
Norwich, founded in 1902, have been in the Premier League more than once. They have come back down every time. An investor called Wolverine will not fix that structural problem. He might, though, put enough money in the pot to change the conversation.
