Ligue 1: Monaco turn to Boudaoui after his Saudi move stalls

Talks revived after Saudi switch stalls

According to Foot Mercato, AS Monaco are in active talks with Hicham Boudaoui. The Algeria midfielder from OGC Nice had already reached an understanding with Al-Ittihad, but the move has now taken a different turn.

The talks are understood to centre on a loan deal with an option to buy. If it goes through, Boudaoui would head to the Principality as an emergency signing, something Ligue 1 rules allow after the window shuts.

The contract situation explains the move. The Algerian is down to the final year of his deal at Nice, leaving the club with a simple choice: cash in now or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months.

Monaco are not done yet

Monaco’s business did not stop when the transfer window closed. Thilo Kehrer joined Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday. Yann Lienard was loaned to Cercle Bruges on Thursday morning.

The exits do not end there. Aleksandr Golovin is reportedly heading for a return to Russia, with Spartak Moscow and Zenit both in the mix. Pape Cabral, meanwhile, is said to be the target of a 10 M€ bid from Al-Ahli.

That outgoing shuffle frees up wages and squad space. It also opens the door for a late arrival in midfield.

A player already built for Ligue 1

Boudaoui is no gamble. Developed in Algeria and settled at Nice for several seasons, he knows Ligue 1 and the physical demands that come with it. A ball-winning midfielder who can push forward, the Algeria international fits the bill for a side that has just emptied its central engine room.

Now it is a case of finishing the job. Until something is signed, caution is still needed on a deal that has already taken one turn this summer.
