Ligue 1: Nakamura ineligible for Lyon’s clash with Auxerre

Debut delayed

Keito Nakamura will not play on Friday. Paulo Fonseca confirmed it in his news conference: the Japanese winger is not eligible for the visit of AJ Auxerre, scheduled for 19:00.

Olympique Lyonnais wrapped up the move on Wednesday, on loan with an option to buy. The deal was completed too late for the winger to be registered in time for the matchday squad.

Julien Duranville will also miss the game.

A signing brought in to fill the gap

Nakamura arrives with a clear job to do. He is there to help fill the void left by Malick Fofana, who joined Sunderland in the closing hours of a particularly frantic transfer window for Lyon.

The Belgian winger had been Lyon’s main attacking threat down that side. His exit left an immediate hole in Fonseca’s starting XI. Nakamura becomes the first player from his country to wear the OL shirt.

So he will have to wait until the next round for his big Ligue 1 debut with Lyon.
