No date, but a hint
John Spytek did not give reporters a timeline for Ashton Jeanty on Tuesday. He gave them something better than the usual holding line.
The Raiders general manager said he expects his running back to “be back as quick as he can” and “maybe quicker than some people would expect.” Then he stopped short. “When that is, we’ll see,” Spytek said.
Jeanty is working his way back from an ankle injury with the 2026 season about to start. Las Vegas has not put a return date on him and Spytek was not about to invent one, but the phrasing was deliberate. Front offices do not float the word “quicker” unless the medical room has given them a reason to.

Spytek is in his second year running the Raiders and Jeanty is the pick he will be judged on. Las Vegas took the Boise State back sixth overall in 2025, high enough that the selection was debated the moment it was announced, and a lost season would sting the front office as much as the depth chart.
Asked where Jeanty is mentally, Spytek did not hesitate. “I think he’s in a good spot,” he said. “And I think he’ll be ready to go when we get him back out there.”
That is a general manager talking about a player he expects to see soon, not one he is preparing to bury on injured reserve. Week 1 arrives in under two weeks, and Las Vegas has not ruled him out of it.
