Ligue 1: Strasbourg sign Deivid Washington from Chelsea until 2031

Eleven minutes before the window shut

19h48 on Tuesday. RC Strasbourg Alsace pushed the announcement out with 11 minutes left before the French transfer window closed.

Deivid Washington is a 21-year-old Brazilian striker and he arrives from Chelsea on a deal that runs to 2031. Five years. Not a loan, not a look at him until Christmas and decide later.

Santos to Stamford Bridge to Alsace, all before 22

Washington came through at Santos, on the coast of Sao Paulo state, a club that has turned out rather a lot of forwards over the years. Chelsea took him from there in 2023. Regular minutes never followed.

Now Ligue 1. The demand will be simple and it will be loud: score.

That 2031 end date says something about how Strasbourg see him. Clubs do not hand five-year contracts to players they expect to move on within a season.

Two from Chelsea in thirty-two minutes

Washington was not the last name of the evening. At 20h20, once the window had technically shut, Strasbourg confirmed the loan of Portuguese midfielder Dario Essugo. Also from Chelsea.

The Alsace club had already brought in around 15 players across the summer. Danish forward Conrad Harder, on loan from RB Leipzig, was presented on the morning of 1 September as signing number 15.

Then two more landed in the final quarter of an hour.
